I’ve never been one to set a New Years Resolution…it’s just not my style. I think for one year I vowed to take my vitamins more. Boring. No resolutions for this year, just a new commitment to pushing myself harder to be healthier.
I’m a relatively healthy person: I don’t smoke, I don’t drink excessively, I don’t eat red meat, poultry or pork, I exercise, I drink lots of water and I wear sunscreen. Not a bad start right?
Here’s the deal. I can do better.
At one point I was working out for 5 hours a day. Sometimes more if I was also riding.
I don’t love exercise, I love the feeling when it’s over. I love tired and sore muscles. I love hardly being about to move without feeling some tender pain. I love a good shower after a long workout. I love eating after working out. I would often spend a good chunk of my time in the pool dreaming up my next meal :)
Attempt one to push myself (and my bionic ankle) harder is this:
I agreed to be on a 4 person team with some friends. I’ve never done anything like this before. I’ve never been good on land, that why I did water sports mostly. I had a long career in Youth Soccer…as a goalie. Not a runner.
So what? I think it’s time I (and my bionic ankle) suck it up and do something cool that I’ll be proud of. Am I worried about my bionic ankle? Hellz yez. It’s gonna suck. But it already hurts most of the time anyway, so what else is new? I have limited range of motion and flexibility in it already, why not try something different?
How am I going to prep for this bad boy at the lake? This:
It’s the Couch to 5k program, and I start on Monday. In 9 weeks I hope I can run 3 miles without stopping.
Wish me (and the bionic ankle) luck!
